There
are many reasons indicating a dysfunction with the absorption of fats
from the intestine or maldigestion. They include:
- Diseases of the
bile ducts and/or liver with a deficiency of fat-digesting bile
acids
- Diseases of the
pancreas with a deficiency in the production and release of fat-digesting
enzymes (lipase)
- Condition following
the surgical removal of a part of the small intestine with diminished
absorption surface
- Mucoviscidosis (cystic
fibrosis)
- Crohns disease
- Blocked lymph drainage
from the intestine
This means that patients
suffering such diseases require a special diet, calling for optimal,
easily digestible nutrient fats and oils which can be absorbed directly
by the body without bile acids and lipase.
